Each year, a dedicated and exemplary theatre professional is recognized at the NorthEast Educational Theatre Festival. This person represents exceptional accomplishment in the promotion of theatre arts and arts education through many years of service.
Kate Arthur: Kate is a founding member of the NorthEast Festival. She recently retired as the Chapter Director of Rhode Island after she relocated to Newnan, Georgia to teach theatre full-time at Northgate High School, Thespian Troupe 6062, and be closer to family. She was the director of Troupe 6945 in North Kingstown, RI for eight years. Kate is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she studied English and Theatre, and is a director, choreographer, and performer.
2010
Marie Glotzbach: Marie was the driving force behind the creation of the NorthEast Festival and the support it provides the Chapter Directors of the NorthEast Leadership Board. She has been, a theatre educator for more than 35 years. Over the course of her professional career, Marie has been a teacher, administrator, and a theatrical director/producer; she is presently a lecturer in Skidmore’s Department of Theater. For more than 30 years, she has been a member of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), serving on its Board of Trustees and in various leadership positions; she is currently the EdTA Leadership Coach for the northeast. In 2001, Marie was inducted into the EdTA Hall of Fame. Prior to the Glotzbachs' move to Skidmore, Marie was a visiting lecturer and guest director in the Department of Theatre at the University of Redlands, and Artistic Director of the Theater Arts Company in Redlands.
2009
Joe Norton: Joe has been a supporter of EdTA and the NorthEast from the beginning. He has been an actor, playwright and producer for various companies in New York City, and is presently the Associate Director of Education & Outreach for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the charity voice of the American Theatre industry. He is a certified AIDS Educator and volunteers his time leading AIDS/HIV workshops in schools and community organizations throughout the Northeast. In New York, he has been a chosen panelist repeatedly for the Annual AIDS in the Arts Conference, the Columbia University AIDS Awareness conference, and the Volunteer Opportunities in the ARTS discussions in New York City. Joe has served as a Director on the Governing Board of the Educational Theatre Association (and the International Thespian Society), and has returned several times as both Presenter and Guest Artist at the International Theatre Festival in Lincoln, NE, as well as at several ITS state festivals and conferences, and at the NY State Theatre Education Association Conferences. He is the recipient of the national HIV/AIDS Partnership’s annual Red Ribbon Leadership Award (2006) and the EdTA’s President Award (2007).
